4 Random Projects
I always follow different projects / initiatives around the world. Here's a glimpse into some of them.
1. The Langley Schools Music Project
Old recordings from the seventies of 60-voice chorus of rural school children from western Canada singing tunes by Bowie, Fleetwood Mac, The Bay City Rollers, and others.
I was just reading the script for the 2018 movie Tully and randomly saw that Diablo Cody, the screenplay writer, starts the entire script with TLSMP's interpretation of a Space Oddity by David Bowie. Listen to the song below.
P.s. Tully is one of the best movies of 2018.
Created by Chris Taggart and Rob McKinnon, OpenCorporates is the largest open database of companies and company data in the world, with in excess of 135 million companies in a similarly large number of jurisdictions. Their primary goal is to make information on companies more usable and more widely available for the public benefit, particularly to tackle the use of companies for criminal or anti-social purposes, for example corruption, money laundering and organized crime. It's a great tool to search companies all over the world.
I believe that financial reports have unnecessary jargon and that the future will bring simple visualization tools that understand important dynamics in finance and easily spot problems and patterns.
In order for OpenCorporates to stay relevant and to be more than just a keyword search engine they should implement the following features:
Multiple data sets group graphs (explore relationships).
A better insight into the people who run the companies and suggestions on related information.
Track financial changes in specific areas of a company.
Visualize data in a better way.
Be better at Natural-language processing.
Care about design. Please..
3. The B Team
The B Team is a global nonprofit initiative co-founded by Sir Richard Branson and Jochen Zeitz that brings together a group of global leaders from business, civil society and government to catalyse a better way of doing business, that prioritises the wellbeing of people and the planet.
Be open, transparent and free from corruption, with good governance and accountability at all levels of our organisations.
4. MRJ Newsletter
The Mitsubishi Regional Jet (三菱リージョナルジェット), or MRJ for short, is an aircraft made by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. Deliveries are scheduled to start by mid-2020 and the newsletter is a great way to track their progress. I bet Boeing and Airbus are reading this :)
Bonus (2): IBISWorld
Australia’s largest provider of industry-based research.
